Level up! block

The Level up! block is a useful tool for keeping track of progression, allowing students to keep track of their activity and progression in the course. Instructors can also compare the progress of students in the course and use the tool to determine which students are very active in the course and which students may need additional support or encouragement.

The block displays an experience bar and level for each student. The instructor can select certain activities or tasks which the student can do to gain experience points. These points fill up the student's experience bar and allow the student to be rewarded with a level each time their experience bar is filled.

The ladder feature can be enabled to display a ranked list of students, their experience points and levels. This allows students to view their own progress in relation to the rest of the students in the course and gives them an indication of whether they are ahead or falling behind.

Instructors have access to a report where they can see the experience points and level of all their students. This gives instructors a general understanding of how active students are in the course. This is different than keeping track of course completion since students can be allowed to gain experience points from general activity such as viewing pages, posting in forums or submitting assignments.

Why use Level up!

Understand Student Activity - The report shows instructors the experience and level of the students in the course. This gives them an understanding towards how active the students in their course are as well as which students are more and less active.

Reward progress - Students are given a sense of constant progression as they gain experience and levels. Each level rewards students for their activity in the course.

Encourage Friendly Competition - The ladder is a leaderboard that encourages competition by ranking students on the amount of experience and levels they have gained.

Student learning experience - This is a new take on improving student engagement by incorporating familiar game features. The game like aspects and progression of Level up! help to improve motivation, encourage engagement and activity of students. Instructors can customise this block by uploading custom icons and writing levels to improve the engagement of the course.

      • Enable cheat guard: Determines whether the cheat guard is active or not
      • Max. actions in time frame: The number of actions that will count towards points in the period of time. Depending on how the tasks that give points are set up, this may need to be changed so that normal users do not get limited by the cheat guard.
