Upload a File to Moodle as a Student

To upload a file to your Moodle course—for example, to a forum post:

  1. At Attachment, drag and drop the file into the box. The file type icon and filename of the uploaded file display within the box.
  2. Do not exit this page without saving your changes, posting to the forum etc., or the nominated files will not be uploaded.

Recommended file size

Some upload limits have been set in Moodle—a warning message will display if your file exceeds these limits.

In general, keep your attachment file sizes as small as possible. Users reading your file may be on 56KB modems, especially if they are travelling. For these readers, large documents will be much more difficult to open or download.

As a guide, a standard 56KB dialup home connection would take roughly 3 minutes to download a 1MB file.

File extensions

Windows determines file types by their extensions. Before you attach a file, make sure that the filename contains an appropriate Windows extension (e.g. ".doc"). Macintosh users should take particular care to add file extensions to filenames, or PC users will be unable to open their attachments.
