Languages Under the Sea

The beautiful Languages Under the Sea VR experience was born from other VR experiences used to help the language learning in UNSW courses. The idea of having an experience where students could get a quick taste of the full range of languages taught at the uni was going to help promote those options to other students and even the broader community. Players get to play I Spy in the chosen language, searching for the right fish and sea animals in a gorgeous underwater 3D environment.

Project Details

The main events where the experience has been a key part have been the annual Languages and Culture Expo where students can get a taste of each of the languages taught here at UNSW in a fun way along with all the festivities and the High School Experience Days where students have the VR component in their Languages day.

TECHNOLOGY & DEVELOPMENT

The project is in a fairly stable state now with minor enhancements and updates continuing in collaboration with the Languages academics. The staff and work integrated learning student developers are using the Unity game engine to bring together all the elements and deliver the VR experience using our Meta Quest 3 headsets.
