Moodle - Inactive users alert block

The Inactive users alert block allows instructors to create alerts per course to determine if students have not accessed the course or important activities by specific dates. This is particularly helpful during the beginning of each semester to ensure that students are not falling behind on important materials or activities within your Moodle course.

 

How to add and configure the Inactive users alert block

Add block

  1. Login to Moodle, open your course, and click the Turn editing on button.

  2. Using the Add a block block on the left hand side, add the Inactive users alert block.

  1. Login to Moodle, open your course, and click the Turn editing on button

  2. Locate the Inactive users block, click the cog icon and choose Configure Inactive users alerts block.

  3. On the Configuring a Inactive users alerts block page, click the cog below Login alert link.

  4. On the Add alert page, complete the form as follows:
    • Enabled - whether the alert is enabled or not
    • Alert 1, 2 and 3 - choose up to 3 dates for when students should be alerted if they do not login to the course
    • Email template - the email to be sent to students when they do not complete the activity. You can customise the email and use the following merge fields

      {clink} : link to the course (displays as the course fullname)
      {cfull} : the fullname of the course
      {cshort} : the shortname of the course
      {userfullname} : the user's fullname
       
    • CC alerts - whether course instructors should be copied on alerts

  5. Click Save changes.

Add activity alert

  1. Login to Moodle, open your course, and click the Turn editing on button

  2. Locate the Inactive users block, click the cog icon and choose Configure Inactive users alerts block.

  3. On the Configuring a Inactive users alerts block page, click the Add alert link.

  4. On the Add alert page, complete the form as follows:
    • Enabled - whether the alert is enabled or not
    • Activity - the activity that student completion should be checked against
    • Alert 1, 2 and 3 - choose up to 3 dates for when students should be alerted if they do not complete the activity
    • Email template - the email to be sent to students when they do not complete the activity. You can customise the email and use the following merge fields

      {alink} : link to the activity (displays as the activity name)
      {clink} : link to the course (displays as the course fullname)
      {cfull} : the fullname of the course
      {cshort} : the shortname of the course
      {userfullname} : the user's fullname
       
    • CC alerts - whether course instructors should be copied on alerts

  5. Click Save changes.
     
  6. Repeat steps 4-6 to add additional alerts.
