What's on the "My courses" page in Moodle?

Overview

The My courses page is the default landing page when you enter Moodle. Links to all your teaching courses display here.

This page describes the main elements on the page, and gives you basic customisation instructions.

When to use

The My courses page is the first page any user sees when they log in to Moodle.

You do not need to return to the My courses page to move from course to course. You can switch courses using the Navigation block or the Courses block within a course.

Benefits

The My courses page displays links to your courses and alerts and links to activities within them, such as unread forum posts and upcoming assignments. Here you can see at a glance which courses need your attention, and click straight through to the relevant course page.

Guide

Step by step instructions

Blocks—The boxes down the left-hand panel of the My courses page are called "blocks". They contain specific information or functions for you and your students.

You can add many different kinds of blocks to your course's home pages. For example:

  • a Glossary block that you have set up in connection with a Glossary activity within the course. Every time a student logs in, a different word and definition from the Glossary displays in the block.
  • an HTML block containing a Twitter feed.

Click the Customise this page button Customise this page icon to show the tools you can use to hide, edit, delete or move a block on the My courses page, and to display the Add a block block.

To add a block to a page:

  1. Click Customise this page Customise this page icon at the upper right of the page.
  2. In the Add a block block, select the block you want in the drop-down list.

The new block will display in the blocks column.

To rearrange blocks on the My courses page:

  1. Click Customise this page Customise this page icon at the upper right of the page.
  2. Click and hold the Move [block name] block icon [insert image], drag the block up or down the block column and drop it in the desired location.

To dock and undock a block:

Due to theme changes introduced by Moodle HQ as part of Moodle 3.7, docking of blocks is no longer possible.

To hide and unhide a block:

  1. Click Customise this page Customise this page icon at the upper right of the page.
  2. In the block you want to hide, click the Settings icon [insert icon image] and select ' Hide [block name] block'
  3. The screen will refresh and the block will be greyed out.
  4. To unhide the block, click the Settings icon and select ' Show [block name] block' .
