  • Stories from the Flipped Trenches (CoP) - My experience with flipping and digitalization of quantitative courses

Presented by Dr Katja Ignatieva, Senior Lecturer, School of Risk and Actuarial Studies, UNSW Business School
Stories from the Flipped Trenches (CoP) - My experience with flipping and digitalization of quantitative courses

I will talk about my systematic approach to flipping in the School of Risk and Actuarial Studies at UNSW Business School for the quantitative course, ACTL2131 Probability and Statistics. Initially, when I flipped the course, it wasn’t as successful as I anticipated, with low student engagement, participation rate, and course evaluation. I will discuss changes I made to improve the course, as part of the Faculty’s digital uplift program, such as significantly revising the course materials and recordings of the video lectures, introducing Lightboard video lecture summaries, and improving online quizzes. These improvements led to increased student participation and engagement during class time, and improved course satisfaction. I will also discuss features that are integral to the success of the course, as highlighted in students’ feedback.
