Kar Ming Chong, Academic Mentor, UNSW Business School

Kar Ming ChongSenior Lecturer Kar Ming Chong has demonstrated leadership by pioneering adoption, implementation, and dissemination of an innovative and active learning and teaching approach, labelled the ‘flipped classroom’ approach, since 2011. This approach introduces students to lecture content outside of the classroom so that they can use class time to actively engage with the content and with each other. Kar Ming supports this approach with various technologies to replace face-to-face lectures, to facilitate within and between team collaborations, and to continually assess student peers’ team performance throughout the semester, to achieve learning outcomes in teamwork, oral communication and critical thinking.

Kar Ming's contributions to teaching and student learning have been recognised by peers with national, UNSW and Faculty teaching awards.

Kar Ming's teaching approach influences teaching practices within the School and Faculty, especially academic coordinators of courses with large enrolments (600-1000 students).
