Jireh Levy
Bachelor of Design

Pencil, acrylic on paper

Growing up as an immigrant, Jireh Levy often uses her art and design practices to connect to her Samoan and Fijian cultural backgrounds. Gratitude is a self-portrait drawing of the aspiring designer and artist. The piece celebrates her most profound creations and Samoan heritage, underpinning her welcoming experience at UNSW. By depicting herself performing a Samoan dance (Siva) in the bow position, Jireh represents her thankfulness and respect for the opportunity that allowed her to freely express and discover more of her cultural identity within her portfolio of designs. Also, alluding to her braided headpiece and belt design of her 'Legacy collection,' Gratitude highlights its significance in empowering newfound confidence in her creative voice.
