The following series is an expression of my personal reflections on my time at UNSW for the past 3 years. Breaking Out represents my experience at university, in which my low expectations of the uni experience were unexpectedly shattered. As a more reserved individual compared to most, I didn’t foresee much gain in terms of connections or experiences, and naturally, this was in part true. However, the efforts of some staff, including tutors and studio technicians, have pleasantly surprised me, and have softened my usually pessimistic outlook. Despite my shy tendencies, staff I’ve interacted with have made it comfortable for me to reach out to them, whether for feedback or advice. And while individually, the help they provided was small, their consistent efforts have cultivated into unanticipated connections and experiences that I never expected to receive. I wish to assure all UNSW staff that the small, seemingly meaningless help they offer to students is still valuable and appreciated.
