Developing Students' Writing Skills

Evidence shows that specific issues can be problematic for students in their writing. This section of the website deals with these issues in turn, proposing strategies that teachers can use, as well as resources, further reading and case studies. As you read these pages, it's useful to relate what you learn to a particular course you are working on.

These student writing pages deal with the following topics:

  • Developing an Argument
  • Critical Thinking
  • Developing Academic Style.

Related Resources

Elsewhere on the Teaching Gateway site, useful pages talk about:

  • Marking tips (also see this page for a specific report marking scheme)
  • Reducing plagiarism
  • Giving feedback to students.

Acknowledgments

This section of the website has been developed from the Writing Toolkit that was written for the UNSW Learning Centre, in consultation with Learning and Teaching, with the support of a grant from the Strategic Priorities/Learning & Teaching fund.
